Brief

All Photos from the Albion Street project were taken in Leeds City Centre on Saturday nights between 9pm and 4am during 2008/2009. The application aimed to present the experience of the photographer and to capture the mood of the environment. Audio recordings were included. Photos were placed on a map to enable the viewer to explore the environment for themselves. A slideshow was also included for people to view the collection with one click if they chose to do so.

Implementation

This project was created using Flash CS3 and Actionscript 2.0 as part of an Interactive Media Design module whilst studying at Leeds Metropolitan University. I had not used Actionscript before embarking upon this 7 week module.

The intro sequence, created using timeline animation within CS3, offers a view of the environment through the photographer’s viewfinder.

Several loops of background atmosphere were selected from the original location audio recordings. Interior ambient loops were used for the information pages, and external looped sections used for the map view. Up to 40 short distinctive up close sounds (less than 1 minute each) play randomly whilst viewing full size photos.

A speaker icon enables the viewer to mute different sound elements whilst exploring the environment.
